NCAA Announces APR Report; Bronco Football Team Ranked No. 2 ...

Boise State University?s football program continues to excel at the same high level in the classroom as it does on the playing field, as the Broncos have the second-highest Academic Progress Rate (APR) in the country among Football Bowl Subdivision teams.

The football team?s multi-year APR score, ending with the 2010-11 academic year, was 989. Boise State tied Duke University for the No. 2 spot behind Northwestern (Ill.) University which posted the nation?s best score at 995.

The APR provides a real-time look at a team?s academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, providing a measure of each team?s academic performance.

This year?s statistical analysis covers a four-year period for the academic years of 2007-08 through 2010-11.

The NCAA also announced last week that the football team earned a Public Recognition Award for having its multi-year score in the top-10 percent among FBS schools. This marks the second straight year the Bronco football team scored in the top-10 percent.

Boise State was the only school to finish in the top 10 and receive a Public Recognition Award. The Broncos were ranked No. 6 in the final?USA Today?Coaches? Poll and No. 8 in the final Associated Press Poll.

The NCAA also announced today that six Boise State teams posted perfect single-year scores of 1,000. They included volleyball, men?s cross country, men?s indoor track and field, women?s basketball, women?s golf and gymnastics.

Football was the only Bronco sport to rank first amongst Mountain West schools for multi-year APR. Women?s outdoor track and field and men?s outdoor track and field each ranked second among league schools with multi-year scores of 988 and 972, respectively.

Boise State also had three teams ranked third amongst Mountain West teams:? men?s cross country (991), women?s swimming and diving (985) and men?s basketball (956).
