Yale College art and design students will be widening their horizons with globally sourced resources, thanks to historical and contextual studies co-ordinator Julia Strong.
On a month long trip over the summer holidays, dedicated tutor Julia, visited Japan, Australia and Bali to research world cultures for Yale College?s autumn theme entitled ?home?.
Gaining unique experiences and collating outstanding resources on her incredible travels, Julia has met up with a Geisha in the Gion quarter of Kyoto, had an authentic meal and tea ceremony in the home of a Japanese family as well as going on a walkabout in the Mossman Gorge rainforest with an Aboriginal guide in Australia.
Hailing arts and crafts workshops and magnificent temples on the paradise island of Bali as ?extraordinary?, Julia has collected artefacts, music and costumes on her travels to be used in incredible College teaching sessions.
?I am keen to encourage students to be more aware of other cultures and gain by sharing my experiences through their own learning,? says Julia, ?I want to inspire them to travel and make discoveries for themselves.?
Julia created a richly illustrated travel Blog called ?Julia?s Home from Home travels? to enable colleagues and students at Yale College to share in her month-long global journey of discovery.
